Walks from Kas
Walk 1 KAS - PHELLOS Starting from Kas Post Office, take the steep lane ascending by the ZIRATT BANKASI. Continue up the steps and then turn left at the road. The Lycian rock tombs are situated in the cliff on your right. Take the first ascend past the hotels and houses, then turn right on the old Kas road past the old water depot with Ataturk, climbing the mountain at the top. Follow the road up to the main Antalya highway, cross the road to the dirt track. The footpath starts marked by four red and white stripes. The path then ascends to the right, zigzagging up the mountain to the top(400m/1,250 ft). Turn left and take in the spectacular panoramic views! Then go back to the path, and continue on to the plain, following the stone steps. You will now see Shepherds out with their herds of goats and flocks of sheep. You should now follow the dirt road to the small hamlet connected to Cukurbag where you will see a number of small, traditional stone village houses. Continue to the main village of Cukurbag. From here you can turn right on the road and walk to Agullu (the tea house) .From here, you can catch the bus back to Kas (duration 4 hours). For the fit and energetic, take the path ascending by the Mosque and ascend Felen mountain to the ruins of Phellos ( 800 m/ 2,500 ft ).The sight is sheltered amongst the vegetation on the ridge. From here you have fantastic views of the Lycian peaks and the Greek Island of Meis. You can view the royal Mousteum (five bc )with its massive bull relief. Now take the path to the north side passing the fallen sarcophagi ( tombs ) and descend to the forest road. turn right and continue to the forest fire station. Then descend on the road to the junction and turn right, descending through Pinarbasi village ( spring ). Turn left out of the village following the dirt road until you reach the Agullu-Cukurbag road, finishing the walk at Agullu ( duration 7-8 hours ) Walk 2 KAS - LIMANAGIZI From Meydan ( main square ) head left facing the harbour, continue past the police station and the forestry commission, and descend past 'Big pebble beach.' Ascend on the dirt road and turn right following the way marks past the new Mosque and houses. The track turns to a path at the last house, running along a stone wall and Tarla ( cultivated land ). The path then slowly ascends and turns into the cistern and ruins area ( viewpoint ) . Continue on the path and then descends to Tarla. Turn right and take the footpath descending to the corner of the beach where there is a restaurant. You can either return by taxi-boat or follow the coastal path by the rock tombs in the cliff ( this is a difficult route ). This path will join back on to the original path near the last house. From here you can return to Kas. ( one and a half hours each way). Walk 3 KAS - PENINSULAR Walk out of Kas past the Amphitheatre, on the return leg, take the road down to the new marina ( two and a half hours ). Kas is an ideal base for walking and hiking, the above are suggested, independent day hikes.
